WCARS event - Radios on the River
When: Sept 15-17
Where: Shady River Campground Big Lake, MN
Who: All Amateur Radio Enthusiasts and other interested parties in and around Central Minnesota
What is the Idea: Bring the family and radios, set the radios up and operate from the Campground for the weekend. I will be settign up early about Noon on Friday check out time is about 4 or 5 PM on Sunday. I am planning a Burger Feed on Friday about 6:30 or 7 PM, So we can eat and visit after getting set up. I will be tenting but I know some may have motor homes to bring. I am thinking that Saturday - Sunday Morning we will do food on our own unless someone has other ideas.
Feel free to come for as much or as little of the weekend as you have time for. Rates are as follows, $9 for tents, $18 for motor homes per night, there are water and electric hookups available there is also a dump station on site. Showers and flush toilets are available. There are plenty of thing for the kids to do, there is a playground and tubing down the Elk River are a few examples.
Being a new ham I thought this might be a great way to learn a few things from those that have been in the hobby for a while and a chance to see some other radios that you guys use.
I will have the 30' Portable Tower that KC0VSN and I made for the VHF talk-in station we will be monitoring 146.400. If needed we will also monitor the Becker or Big Lake Repeaters but I have not yet contacted the repeater owners to see if that is OK and to make arrangements.
